Time for some Changes!

Although we have had many compliments on our web design, we had decided it is time to update everything. In the next month or so, check back to our website to see the new revamped look! Our blog will soon be enhanced and will be located under the "Newsletter" portion of our website. I will be able to add pictures and I will be blogging a lot more frequently. We will also have a more modern homepage that we are just so excited for!

We are also entering into the Holiday season which is my favorite time of the year. But with all the festivities, comes lots of events and a busy schedule. Sweaters

Everyone in the fashion industry knows that this season, especially as the weather get colder now that we are in November, it is all about sweaters and boots. It is the ideal outfit for everyone to throw on regardless of what they have going on that day.

For our working professionals, dress pants look great back with a more fitted sweater like a cardigan or turtleneck. Add some wedge shoe boots under your dress pant and you are now rocking the sweater and boot trend.

For the more casual customer, skinny jeans or leggings look amazing paired back with a over sized slouchy sweater and tall knee-high boots. This look is not only fashion forward but so comfortable and can work with almost all climates. For warmer weather, wear a lighter weight or large knitted sweater with a tank underneath. For cooler weather a thicker wool-blend legging back with a heavier long sleeve sweater will keep you warm and cozy. Plus you can still throw a coat over it! If it is raining this look looks just as good with cute rain boots and now you are trendy and functional. Long sweaters can even act as a dress and opaque hose or tights can be worm as another leg covering option.

With a handful of sweaters and couple different skinnier legged pant options, you will be set for the fall and winter seasons! Enjoy the trend while it lasts, I don't remember a time when dressing so cute was so darn comfortable!

Designers & Companies you need to know about

Here are a list of some of our favorite designers in the recent months who seem to be right on target with all the top trends.

1. Tory Burch
Tory Burch was founded in 2004 with ready-to-wear, handbags, jewelry, and shoes after one of the co-founders, Tory Burch. This line has impressed us over the past few years and in 2010, they can't do any wrong in our eyes. The price point is competitive and the quality is outstanding. After the popularity of the 2006 signature ballet flat, their popularity has grown and the collections are amazing. The clothes are wearable and fashion forward from leather dresses to the most amazing totes, and seem to fit everyone so well.

2. Hunter

Hunter started out as a Scottish company focused on the British clientele, offering functional waterproof footwear for the rainy and overcast weather. They have recently embraced the current times and have tried, successfully, to update their look and target mass markets around the world. This year, the basic rain boot as taken a twist by adding wedges, heels, and fashionable details that make a rain boot an "in" look for the fall and winter season. There are different texture and color options available that help go with anything in your wardrobe. Instead of bring a pair of rain boots to change in to, Hunter rain boots can be worn all day long and still keep your fashionable edge.

3. Alice + Olivia

Alice + Olivia was launched by Stacey Bendet in 2002 as a line of pants. The co-founder of Theory realized her potential and joined the team and developed it into a full collection. The items from Alice + Olivia are funky and eclectic in design but not over-the-top. They are quirky and a bit younger looking fashions that appeal the many ages. The bright colors and prints make for a wonderful spring and summer line. We worked with a lot of A + O pieces this past spring and summer and I know we will again next year.

4. Michael Kors
Michael Kors is like the new Ralph Lauren. He has a style of elegance and sophistication that appeals to all audiences. His shoes and handbags are just as amazing as his clothing line. His popularity on Project Runway has only made him more well-know and admirable. He is a household name now and his collections back it all up. Michael was bound be a fashion star after getting into the industry at 19 and starting his own line in 1981. It started as strictly clothing, but has since expanded to accessories, shoes, handbags, menswear, fragrance, and more. Even after all these years, his ideals of creating chic American sportswear have never been questioned.

5. Elie Tahari
Elie Tahari is a great line of sophistication and simplicity. We are constantly purchasing Elie Tahari pieces for our more professional clients or to obtain the basics for everyone. There is no better fitting black pant than that of Elie Tahari in addition to the femininity of his delicate blouses. The clothing line also runs small so it is great for our smaller clients. Elie, an orphan from Israel, moved to New York in the 70's and began making clothes in 1973. In 2003 the official Elie Tahari collection was launched and since then all of his collections have remained timeless while keeping up with current trends.

Colors of Fall

OLIVE GREEN-- This is the single most important color of the military inspiration which you are seeing in stores and on the red carpet. It looks great in a suede or try to find a suede jacket or boot. Also try finding something with olive green in a chunky knit sweater or fun textured scarf. This shade of green also looks great in nylon handbag for that military look.

RED-- This color is hard to not find right now everywhere on the sales floor and can be worn in almost every shade from a deep wine color to a orangier cherry red. It adds great contrast to an otherwise solid outfit so try pairing it will and all grey, charcoal or black look and watch the red really pop with either a red handbag, shoe, or accessory.

GREY-- This is another color that you can find in any shade from a light dove color to a deep charcoal but this basic looks best when worn top to bottom. Nothing looks better than this monochromatic color scheme from head to toe. Add studs or crystals to add some flair to the outfit. Make sure you have a fantastic grey shoe to pair back with your basics.

METALLICS-- Both gold, silver, brass, bronze, and rose gold are featured this season. Accessories are the easiest way to add these color to your look with shoes, jewelry, and handbags but don't be afraid to add these colors into your clothing as well. We have been wearing golds with neutrals and silvers with greys but this season look ultra modern when you mix silver with neutrals and gold with black.

TAUPE-- Neutrals have been popular and they still are. Any shades from sand to champagne, but this seasons newest neutral shade it taupe. This neutral has a bit more grey in it than the others and because it is so new, you will look so current wearing it. Add this color with a great pair of twill pants or fur piece like a vest, jacket, or wrap.

Sunscreen Tips

Now that it is AUGUST, it is hot, hot, hot. In Texas we have been having consecutive days over 100 degrees! With that head index it is so important to stay hydrated and protect your skin. I have 5 great tips and ideas when it comes to choosing sunscreen that is perfect for you and your skin.

Some antioxidants such as vitamin E can help block the sun rays. It is naturally secreted by the body to protect skin. Try Neutrogena's Helioplex360 series which has vitamin E as one of its key ingredients.

Sand often sticks to sunscreen and when you try to wipe off the sand or granules that may have clung to you, you end up wiping off all your sunscreen. They key is baby powder. Bring a small bag of baby powder with you when you go to the beach to help get all that sticky sand off in order to not re-apply sunscreen all the time.

Try a tinted sunscreen to help avoid looking extra pale after applying the more common white lotions.

Sunscreens with DNA repair enzymes are great if you are worried about the signs of aging. Many vi sable signs of aging are from sun damage which is essentially DNA damage. The enzymes in sunscreen such as Olay Professional Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal, help supplement one's own supply.

Do your eyes ever burn from sunscreen getting in them? If so, try using extra sensitive sunscreen around your eyes or all over your face. Another trick is to use lip balm with spf around the eye area as it is more likely to stay put.

No matter which sunscreen you use, avoid tanning beds. Tanning beds emit pure UVA rays which have been found to be as or more carcinogenic for melanoma than the UVB rays. (both emitted from the sun) Although most sunscreens now protect against UVA, the damage from pure UVA rays can be way more harmful.

As the weather continues to heat up, it is very easy to get caught up in a more relaxed and casual lifestyle. For most of us though, there is still a work dress code we need to follow to continue to project a professional image. There are some key items to avoid during work hours...

Sunglasses-- Once you walk in the building, sunglasses need to be removed and put away. They should not be worn indoors around the office nor should they be placed on the top of your head to be forgotten about for the day.

Tank Tops-- These sleeveless tops reveal way too much skin for the office. Some workplaces will allow sleeveless but do not push the boundaries with the thinner strap alternatives. Save these summery tops for the weekends.

Screen T-shirts-- Nice t-shirts can be great for work especially during the summer when you want a cool cotton against your skin but when you throw writing on it, regardless of what it says, it becomes inappropriate for work. Stick with prints or solids and leave the screen t's for home.

Strappy Sandals-- I hope most of you do not dare wear flip flops to work but there is a fine line on what sandals are good for work and which ones are not. Make sure the sandal has a back. You should never wear shoes that flop on your foot. Also avoid really strappy, barely-there kind of sandals and opt for something that covers more.

Here are some basic bathing suit tips to finding the perfect suit for you specific body type along with examples of bathing suits you should be looking for. We included some of our favorite picks for bathing suits of summer 2010. Enjoy!

If you are petite-- With an all-over smaller frame you can wear an all-over smaller bathing suit. Tops with pleats and rouching can make your bust appear larger and strings or thinner straps on the bottom will help give the illusion of curves while flaunting your small bone structure. Also try bathing suits with bright colors and bold prints to help your smaller features look larger and stand out.

If you are pear shapped (larger on bottom)-- Two-peices bathing suits are usually best to show off your smaller middle and upper body. The key here is moderation. You do not want to wear a bottom with too little fabric like a string bikini which will just make you look bigger, but you also don't want to add extra weight with ruffles and too much skirting. If you opt for a skirted bottom to hide flaws, you will need pair that back with a top that is a bit heavier as in no little string bikini tops becasue you will look unbalanced. A thicker strap bottom with a push up bra top is ideal. Also, avoid printed bottoms which bring attention and mass to that area, but welcome ruffles and embelishments to the top which will help balance you out.

What to wear this Summer

With all of this hot weather it can be hard to motivate yourself to put on anything except grungy shorts and t-shirts with flip flops. Here are some cute and easy wardrobe ideas that will keep you cool in the hot weather while maintaining a fashionable edge.

The trends right now are great for hot weather. Billowing blouses and looser fitting tops help keep us cool in the heat. Pairing these types of tops back with a tighter, more fitted pant or capri is a cool fresh look. Dresses are still the greatest choice since they are easy and cool. Accessories are still large and bulky and look best when paired back with a simple t-shirt or solid blouse. The shoes right now are high so invest in a great pair of wedges that will give you all the height without all the discomfort.

What to wear to a barbeque or other casual outdoor event: If there is any chance you will be sitting on the ground or playing with kids or animals, dresses are probably not the best idea here. Wear a nice pair of shorts, paired back with a fitted t-shirt. Add rhinestone flat sandals to add a little flair to the outfit and maybe throw on an oversized pair of earrings. Carrying a large hobo bag also gives this outfit a fashionable look.

What to wear to work on casual Fridays: The ankle pant is the hottest pant length right now and are perfect for work. Pair them back with a short sleeve chiffon blouse (wear a tank underneath if the top is too see-through) or you can opt for the tank top and long cardigan set. Both ways, you will stay comfortable inside where it is usually over air conditioned and stay cool outside. Wear a nude pump for a classy, current look.

What to wear to happy hour with friends or date night with the hubby: This is the perfect time to wear that cute dress that you splurged on! You will look stylish with little to no effort. Don't we all just love memorial day weekend. Most everyone gets an extra day off work for a fun filled, sun filled, four day weekend. It is pretty much the first day off work when the weather is finally nice so whether you want to lay out by a pool or boat around a lake, outdoor activities are must! Even notice that the weather is usually fantastic and warm? It's because good warm weather is what memorial day weekends were designed around.

White most of us have the day off from work, some companies work overtime during this weekend. On of the best known facts about this weekend is the guarantee to find a good deal or fantastic sale. Retails stores and other brick and mortar varieties prosper during this weekend because people like me know it is time to go buy stuff!

Although we are a fashion based company, there are other great deals out there other than clothes. You will find many deals on the latest trends but think bigger purchases for this weekend. Have you been wanting a new TV? How about paint for your house? No matter how big or small, now it your time to get it. Oh, my cardigan!

Twinsets are so last year!

But cardigan sweaters are still all the rage.

These are the types of cardigan everyone needs to have in their closet:

The Flyaway Cardigan-- This cardigan has no button or closures and is meant to wear open. Many have extra fabric in the front to give it a fuller appearance. These can be worn over tees, tanks, and camisoles either loose and open or belted. You can belt the outside of them or belt the tee, tank, or camisole, and still leave the cardigan open. Lots of choices with this one but completely essential.
The Wrap Cardigan-- Along the same line of the flyaway one, this cardigan does not have much structure. Usually a bit more fitted than most cardigan, these have extra fabric in the front at the bottom used to wrap around yourself. You can wrap the ends of the cardigan like scarf around your neck or more like a loose wrap, wrapped lightly around your shoulders. The ends of this particular cardigan can be tied in the front for a different look.
The Collared Cardigan-- This is cross between the very popular blazer or boyfriend jacket and a softer looking cardigan. Often they are knitted and have the same feel as a typical cardigan but with a couple super structured features like large collars, and substantial cuffs, maybe with the same blazer buttoning. The Collared Cardigan is a very trendy piece.
Other fun and current cardigan looks consist of using different than usual fabrics like sheers, or heavy knits, or prints and embellishments that make them updated from the plain ones we have seen for years. Details such as ruffles, over sized buttons, or embroidery are also great.

We have been having so much fun shopping for all the Spring and Summer trends this year. Remember, when you are shopping, to take advantage of promotions and discounts wherever you can. It really makes your dollar go further.

Many websites have discount codes and online coupons where you get 10% or 20% off your purchase in addition to free shipping. Look for those kinds of deals. Many stores carry more merchandise online than they do in stores because they can just keep everything in a warehouse and do not have to worry about displaying anything for customers. When these costs are cut, they can go lower on the prices and you can find some really fantastic deals.

Look to places like Zappos and ShoeDazzle for great deals on shoes. Both have free shipping and returns all the time so it makes ordering particularly easy and both have great prices. Great deals can be found in stores also but don't forget about the online option where you can search for the best prices.

Oscar Wrap Up

Now that the largest Hollywood award show is over, we have a few comments to those daring outfits we saw on the red carpet. I generally don't choose to watch many award shows except for this one. All the stars come out to play and boy do I LOVE the red carpet fashion for the Oscars. All the amazing designers and over-the-top dresses you could not wear any where else.

The main trend this season was architectural elements. There were many interesting modern shapes and silhouettes with the technical design flair. Some did the trend justice while others failed to impress. I loved seeing all the color and volume the stars dared to wear. Some missed the mark like Zoe Saldana, who I love, look awful in a purple, ruffled, ombre mess, Amanda Seyfried's dress washed her out and was not flattering on her small frame, and Anna Kendrick's pink gown was not fashion forward and look matronly for such a young actress, but there were more who looked fantastic! My list of best dressed this year consists of 7 women, sorry I liked more than 5 to narrow it down further.

Demi Moore-- She was only there as a presenter and missing her handsome hubby, but that did not stop her from stealing the show. Most of the time wearing a dress close to your skin tone makes you look washed out, but nude dressing is the look this season and her perfectly glowing skin helped her look fantastic. She had simple hair, elegant accessories that all worked back perfectly with her tier Versace dress and matching heels.
Sandra Bullock-- At first glance, I didn't love this look. The hair seemed a bit flat and the lip stick was too bright, but silver embroidered dress by Marchesa was amazing. I loved the asymmetry through the waist and the small cap sleeve was so delicate. She looked like a star. And as I saw star after star with their hair pulled back in a bun, I came to really appreciate the change Sandy did with her hair. Although I still would have muted the lipstick, she was definitely a best dressed!
Cameron Diaz-- Although know for making my worst-dressed lists a lot, this year, she blew me away. Her gold beaded Oscar de le Renta dress was so beautiful and on fashion point! Gold is the IT metallic for the season as it texture which her dress had plenty of. Her hair, make-up, and jewelry all complemented the dress and it was one of her best red carpet moments.
Queen Latifa-- Pink was a large trend and she did it the right way. I don't think I have ever seen her look better. The one shoulder rhinestone Badgley Mischka dress fit her like a glove, was so very flattering on her curvy figure.
Elizabeth Banks-- She was only there to present but like Demi, she stole the show. Her look was understated due to it's grey shade, but the silhouette of the bodice, the ruffles of the skirt (huge trend), the fabulous earring, and the simple pulled back hair made her look flawless. There was not one thing I would change about her look on the red carpet. I even liked the headband that added a young fashion forward twist.
Rachael McAdams-- She was SO refreshing in a printed Elie Sabb dress that we had not seem much of on the red carpet. She paired it back with the perfect earring and simple swept up hair.
Carey Mulligan-- There were mixed reviews for Carey but I loved the unique black Prada dress embellished with all sorts of random trinkets like scissors, knives, bolts, and gears. She, too, paired her dress back with the perfect chandelier earring!

Time to Schedule

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is officially time to start thinking about your spring wardrobe for 2010. Our calendar for March is practically full. If you are interested in having BJ Wilson & Company help you with your new Spring look, you need to hurry and call or email us to get scheduled for April.

I know this Winter has been brutal for most of us, especially for the east coast, but here in Texas we have hit records low temperatures and record snowfall. With all the cold weather, it is hard to think about switching over to our spring wardrobes but the truth is, it needs to be done.

Spring is actually a colder season than fall so don't think we are going to dress you in summer sundresses and strappy sandals. The biggest transition is just lightening up our wardrobe. Let's rid ourselves of maroon, charcoal grey, and deep purple and welcome Sapphire blue, hot pink, and lime green into our lives. Spring fabrics can still consist of wools and heavier fabrics to keep us warm, but it is time to move on from the deep, dark, richer colors.

Valentine's Day

So Valentine's Day is right around the corner. I find that some people enjoy this holiday that celebrates the love they have in their lives and embrace an excuse for a romantic dinner for two.. plus who doesn't love another gift giving holiday? There are also those who believe it is a Halmark holiday made up to make those with the wonderful feeling of love, feel more loved, and the lonely loveless individuals feel more lonely. Whatever your feelings of Valentine's Day are, most often it involves some sort of gift exchange. Cards are usually enough in my opinion but for those who have significant others who appreciate unique and special gifts for Valentine's Day, I have a fabulous suggesstion, gift certificates from BJ Wilson & Company. As much as I would love to receive jewelry for every Valentine's, I also love gifts that are useful and functional, especially in this economy. Spring Preview

I know January seems a bit early to be thinking about your Spring wardrobe, but let's face it... all the stores are now selling shorts and bathing suits that make you cringe after a weight-gaining Holiday season. I am not saying summer is here so please do NOT go wearing your khaki shorts and tank tops around just because the temperature has reached a whopping 50 degrees. But since the stores are selling the upcoming season, it is a great time to be thinking about what you want to buy and what look you want to project this Spring.

The hottest craziest trend is actually being carried over from Fall and Winter 2009 which is the sky high platform heels. These may be nonfunctional for many of you but if you can find it in your budget to buy at least one pair for hot date nights or lunch with the ladies, do it becasue you will instantly look so now.

Other peices to look for would be skinny pants, voluminous jackets, chunky necklaces, more metallics, and fun flirty fabrics such as lace, tulle, silk, or anything with ruffles.

The colors are the biggest difference from last Spring and Summer. Yellow is still popular but it is a greenier yellow, red is still huge but it is an orangey red that we like to call tomato... it is just about the hottest color this season and we have not seen it for years! Neutrals play an even larger part in this spring and summer and you will see khakis, beige, tans, and all shades of earthy neutrals as this seasons basics. Pink is still strong in both the hot pink color and the newer light pink shade. Turquoise, which has been in style for a couple years now, stays strong.

Staying Slim

It's Holiday season and it can be difficult to NOT pack on a few extra pounds with all the amazing dinners, family cooking, and delicious desserts. Here are a couple of helpful eating tips when it comes to holidays.

Worst Holiday Drink: Eggnog
Unfortunately, there is not one healthy aspect of this Holiday treat. It is full of fat from the egg, cream, and sugar ingredients. Opt for a glass of hot cocoa or apple cider instead.

Desserts such as Pecan Pie, Cheesecake, and Fruitcake are full of butter, sugar, corn syrup and fat. Pass on these holiday desserts and opt for desserts such as fruit pie/cobblers and pumpkin pie which has beta-carotene.

Avoid creamed veggie dishes especially when there are fresher options available. Avoid cheese sticks, swidish meatballs, and fried fattening finger snacks and opt for pretzels, chips and salsa, and popcorn.

Lastly, enjoy the holiday food just try not to overindulge. The key is to eat what you want, just limit the portion sizes of the unhealthy foods.

1. Little mini sewing kits are great to have. Throw one in your purse or keep at work in case your heel pulls the hem in your pants out or your button falls off. Many kits come with safety pins which are great to help with clothing tears and act as a great jewelry clasp if your necklace breaks.

2. Double sided tape. There are many different brands out there right now of double sided tape but it can be a fashion lifesaver. Use it to cover up a deep neckline of a top or dress that is revealing too much or ever help bra straps stay in place.

3. Clear Nail Polish is the best answer to a run in your pantyhose. The second you see or feel a run, do not pull on the pantyhose in any direction. Instead, get out your clear nail polish and apply it to the end of the run. Let is dry and the run will not spread.

4. Other things to consider are eraser sponges to help remove deodorant marks and scuffs on shoes, super glue to aid in a temporary solution to your heel breaking off your shoe, Tide To-go pen to help with immediate stain removal, and things like extra earring backs are also great to have in time of need.

One more fashion tip

Rub dryer sheets over your pantyhose, tights, and other clothing to get rid of static cling before you leave the house. It does an amazing job.!

Tip of the Week: Outfit Shopping

As mentioned before, when you are shopping for separates it is important to stay on a wardrobe plan and designed shopping list, but when it comes to the holidays, it is all about the outfits. It can be fun and much easier to shop for specific events or occasions that are more prevalent during the holiday season. Anything from cocktails dresses to a matching pant suit can be purchased without worry or hesitation because the only thing they need to match are themselves. For all of our clients and viewers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you are probably well aware of all the Debutante parties, Balls, and other events going on this time of the year. With the Zoo Ball a couple of weeks ago, there are a number of dates coming up that you need to be prepared for. Steeplechase will be the next Debutante Ball which will occur on October 31 this year. Exactly one week later is the Fort Worth Assembly Ball for the upcoming debutantes. On November 19th the Jewelry's Party will take place at the Fort Worth Club and finally the Jewel Charity Ball will be held on January 9, 2010 at the fabulous Omni Hotel in Fort Worth.

This is always a fun time of the year for us as we enjoy looking for and buying wonderful ball gowns for our clients for all of these upcoming events. Tip of the Week: What is Black Tie?

When an occasion is defined as Black Tie, the men should wear a tuxedo and the women should wear a long gown or special short party dress. Black-Tie Optional and Semi-Formal allow the men to either wear a tuxedo or a dark suit and the women to wear party dresses or dressy suits. When an invitation requests Casual attire, refer to the invitation. The hostess should provide information regarding the theme time and location of the party, which let's you know what is appropriate for the occasion.

Evenings for Fall and Holiday 2009 are filled with color! Although the little black dress is still flattering and appropriate, there is an overall anti-black feeling among designers this year. Body Type Style Guide

Everyone seems to out and about shopping for their new fall wardrobes right now. There are a lot of fun trends and wild looks. I will going to dispense a couple tips on what to buy depending on your body shape.

Full Figure: Vertical patterns are slimming as are clothes with inverted pleats and slits that also have the vertical effect. All dark colors, not just black are all slimming colors and this fall you can choose from browns and grey to deep purples and burgundy. Asymmetrical designs and draping effects also compliment this body type.

Busty: Stay away from tops that are too tight; they will only make your bust look larger. Tailored button down shirts and jackets fit larger busts better. They allow for more room without looking oversized and baggy. Avoid skinny leg pants and narrow bottom that will just emphasize your bust and make you look top-heavy. Pants with wide legs, and cuffs that have more substance are a better fit for this body type.

Petite: Solid color silhouettes are best for you to help elongate your body. The worst thing to do is break your body up with horizontal lines and color breaks. Belts should be subtle and not contrast with what you are wearing and it is best to wear shoes the same color as your bottoms. Items with pinstripes and small vertical lines extend height. For this body type avoid overdoing the jewelry. Bold accessories are popular this season but petite girls should pick earrings or a necklace and not do both.

Pear-Shaped: Avoid skinny leg pants and skirts that hug your hips too much. A wide leg pant is going to be more flattering and allow for more room through your thighs. Wear tops that have pleats or ruffles that add volume to your smaller upper body. Adding belts and items that accentuate the waist are usually beneficial and bring the focus away from your lower body.

Pregnant: You will have to invest in some good maternity jeans and other pants but you do not need to purchase maternity tops. There are plenty of blouses and tunics that allow a lot of space in the waist for your belly bump to fit. Consider buying some long cardigan sweaters-- there is enough fabric to cover your belly and they can be worn post pregnancy too. Buy tank dresses and shift dresses that are also looser fitting through the tummy instead of a sheath dress that is more structured. Wrap sweaters and oversized chunk knits will fit your body through pregnancy and can be worn post baby bump.

Mad for Plaid

One of the hottest new trends for fall is plaid. Wearing a little touch of plaid will help you look current and up-to-date. For the more conservative and traditional, add a burberry scarf or a plaid shoe to your wardrobe. It will help make all those basics in your wardrobe pop. For the more fashion daring, invest in a plaid dress or skirt. The british rock look is popular this fall so use this plaid trend to add a funky edge to your wardrobe.

With plaid being so popular this season, I though it only fitting to discuss the whereabouts of this fabulous pattern.

Plaid, more traditionally called Tartan, can be traced back all the way to the 5th century in Ireland, the home of the Scots. It was originally a type of uniform that the Scots wore to help associate them to their specific clan. Although we can trace tartan back so far, it looked very different from what we think of plaid today.

The first piece of tartan clothing was a long shirt, almost to the knee called a léine probably made of linen. The colored stripes were later added to help indicate the rank of the person wearing it. The more stripes equaled the high the power. Tartan grew from a shirt to a large piece of fabric that the Highlanders would wear like a hood with pleats around their waist for warmth at night. By 1730, the pattern had evolved into something what would resemble today's plaid.

After becoming a staple garment in the Highlands, during the battle of Culloden in 1946, the English Army invaded the Highlands, destroying textile production and banning clan tartans. Facing the consequences, the Highlanders insisted on wearing their tartan which became a large part of the Scottish culture signifying the fellowship of the Scots.

The end of August through the month of September is the time to switch out your Spring and Summer wardrobe with your Fall and Winter wardrobe. While doing this, take the opportunity to let go of items you no longer need and help de-clutter and organize the worthy wardrobe pieces.

Now that we have gone over the "When?" let's focus on the "Why?"

Do you ever walk into your closet and feel overwhelmed? Does it seem like a burden to have to get dressed in the morning? Does the depleted energy from having to figure out what to wear start your day off on a negative note? These feelings are signs that your closet is not serving its purpose and may be in need of some revamping. Chances are your closet is not organized properly making it difficult to find what you even have in there. In addition to a lack of organization, clutter is a huge problem that lingers in many closets. Clutter is simply defined as unnecessary items; ideally, every item in your closet should serve a purpose and benefit you in one way or another. Once you organize your closet and purge yourself of the clutter, you will feel a sense of serenity and help start your day off right. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to organize and de-clutter other parts of your life.

The "How" of closet cleansing can be a bit more difficult to explain. This is where having a wardrobe consultant is handy because we know exactly how to organize closets based on the individual person, their lifestyle and their wardrobe needs. But there are some tips to help you get started with the cleaning and de-cluttering part.

1. Pick a Good Time-- You need to have energy to be moving, cleaning and lifting heavy clothes. Weekends are usually are great time to do this instead of after a long day at work. Set some mood music, make yourself a drink and have fun with this.

2. Evaluate-- Go through each piece and ask yourself important questions: Does it fit? Is it current? Is it flattering? Does it project the image that I want to project? Does this item have more value to me than the wonderful cleared space it would leave behind?

3. Discard-- Whether is being donated to charity, given to friends or family, or being dumped in the trash, all items that received a "no" to any of the questions above need to be evacuated from your closet. The empty space can be overwhelming and you may be inclined to fill the space with some discards that you are second-guessing or anything new, but resist. This feeling will pass and leave you feeling confident and free from all the crap that was weighing you down.

4. Hire Us-- We will help organize everything into sections based on season, occasion, garment type, and colors in a way that makes it easy to find what you want and get dressed in a hurry.

Fall Fashion Tip of the Week: Cut down on overspending.

Make a shopping list of all the necessities before you go shopping and stick to it. This will help minimize spontaneous splurges that benefit you in no way. Also, try paying in cash. You will evaluate the worth of the purchase more when you see the bills fly out of your wallet.
